Dave Zucker, founder and head of FlySorter LLC writing here. Though I normally keep my personal political views and business communications separate, our nation faces a crisis that will only worsen with reticence and silence.
It's no secret that I believe in fundamental human rights for all, that diversity and inclusion are critical to making America better, that science provides immense benefits for our society, that facts are facts, and that we do better as a nation when we practice tolerance, fight racism, welcome immigrants, and keep hate out of our laws and statutes. Recent actions — namely, banning Muslims from entering the US — by the Trump administration run counter to these beliefs, and I condemn them in full voice:
Within our admittedly limited capacity — FlySorter is a very small company, still working to grow into a sustainable small business — we pledge to oppose the bigoted, unlawful, and frankly un-American policies that endanger the safety of our community and threaten to undo the hard work of many. When the time comes that we can hire employees, we will aggressively seek out candidates from underrepresented groups. We will reexamine our supply chain and find alternate parts and materials for those that come from tainted sources. We will dedicate time to volunteer locally in support of education and equality. We will (when possible) donate to organizations that support marginalized people and/or oppose laws and actions that hurt us all.
There is much work to do to make our country a safe, prosperous home for all (not just elite groups). FlySorter endeavors to do its part.
